Ripstickin' at the Mortuary

The sun is shining! It seems as if it's been so long. We love the winter, and really wouldn't mind another big snow storm, however, this change of weather has sure been delightful. We've been aching to get outside and play since the increase in temperature, and today we had a few minutes to do just that. Marc got a ripstick for Christmas and at first I was a bit hesitant, but we love it! We've been riding it in the garage with the vans, limo, and herse (luckily no damage was done when I lost control:). We hear this place is awesome in the summer because there are large grass areas (without headstones) and a lot of roads that are relatively unbusy to rollerblade, bike, jog, or ripstick. Today when Marc was beginning the rounds (the routine of locking up and cleaning up the mortuary at 5:00 when it closes) he called me to come down to the embalming room to see something. I went down there and there was a PINK casket! Not the usual wood ones either, it was like fabric, really soft material with roses and lace on it. I'd never seen anything quite like it! I wanted to take a picture, but I'm not so sure that would've been a very good idea:) They should make caskets more creative like this one more often. Marc and I have a great idea to start a casket rental business, for those of us that don't care how pretty the box is that is under the ground, only for the viewing. Along with this we would offer people to design their casket, like the pink one, or have cool designs carved in the wood...one day we'll be millionaires with our grandiose ideas!

Ice Fishing

marc and his big fish!

we bought these hats last year on clearance, pretty attractive eh?
marc making a beautiful snow angel:)

On President's Day we went ice fishing to east canyon dam. Our success rate was relatively low, only one fish, caught by marc, what a stud! It's a rainbow trout and it was delicious! The sun was shining and it was a warm day which was a nice change in weather. Marc made a snow angel and a heart in the snow for me:) We saw about 100 deer and about 30 wild turkeys on the drive there and home. I had never seen a turkey fly, it was quite the adventure!

We've joined the club...

Well, we are now official "bloggers". I suppose the first thing to post would be a little bit about ourselves. Marc and I were married on December 29th, 2006 in the Ogden Temple and are both working and going to school. Marc is studying business and communication (for the moment) and I am studying health promotion and nutrition. I am planning to graduate in one more semester (!) and Marc will be graduated in a couple years (?). Marc is working at HAFB in the contracting department as part of a student trainee program and really enjoys it there. I am working for the state health department with the gold medal schools program and I mentor four elementary schools in the Ogden area for the program. I also teach aerobics at WSU and I'm working in the stress lab on campus as part of my internship. (Gold Medal Schools is the other part of my internship). I absolutely love my jobs and also school! This semester has been extra busy for both of us and we are counting down the days until spring break! We live in a mortuary which is very eventful and is a great conversation starter. Marc picks up the bodies and we get to live rent free, it's a pretty sweet deal. Our good friends live here as well so it's lots of fun. Marc enjoys telling people we live in the biggest house on 36th street...it's a good laugh when they find out we live in a MORTUARY!
